What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is a proven approach to supporting children by allowing them to express their feelings and work through challenges in a way that feels natural and comfortable for them. Through play, children can explore their emotions, develop resilience, and find healthy ways to cope. Our therapists guide children using a range of play-based techniques designed to help them feel seen, heard, and understood.

Joyous Journeys Therapies can help with:

  • Building self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Managing feelings of grief or loss
  • Coping with illness, whether in themselves or a family member
  • Navigating difficult social experiences like bullying
  • Adjusting to parental separation or divorce
  • Developing healthy attachments and overcoming trauma
  • Managing anger, aggression, and anxiety
  • Overcoming the effects of abuse or neglect
  • Supporting children with learning difficulties

How Does Play Therapy Work?

The play therapist joins the child in their imaginative, creative and playful world by becoming fully attuned within the child’s play in order to gain a better understanding of what issues the child has to help work with them to help resolve them.

Within the play, children will express themselves and act out feelings and emotions using different toys within a symbolic way, or through role play. A play therapist will observe how the child uses the toys which may symbolise something deeper and use therapeutic techniques and activities to explore the emotions which will help the child process and work through past experiences.

A Safe, Compassionate Space for Healing

Our goal is to create a welcoming, non-judgmental space where children can feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions.

Every child’s journey is unique, and our team is here to help each child find their path to healing, growth, and happiness.
